J. "Jack" Hickey
Director, Sequoia Healthcare District
Taxpayer's Candidate for Re-election
Election November 7, 2006

On August 11, 2006, I submitted my papers and became a candidate for re-election to the four year seat on the Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors. At that time, I submitted my Candidate Statement (to appear on the sample ballot) and paid the publishing fee of $1,295.00.
Candidate Statement
for
Jack Hickey
Age 72
Elected Director, Sequoia Healthcare District
Serving as your representative on the Sequoia Healthcare District Board of Directors has been challenging, rewarding and stressful. After you elected me in 2002, the Board denied my oversight seat on the SHS Governing Board of Sequoia Hospital. I felt that voters were betrayed.
Subsequently, the majority of my board sought to abandon Sequoia Hospital on its present site to a new site near Highway 101. My referendum petitioning effort played a major role in keeping Sequoia Hospital at its present site.
My agenda would allow voters to determine the legitimacy of the District in the context of recommendations by the San Mateo County Civil Grand Jury. The majority on the board refused to place a measure on the ballot.
Originally established as the Sequoia Hospital District, the District morphed into Sequoia Healthcare District following sale of Sequoia Hospital to SHS. Currently, the District is using public assets and property tax revenue to pursue philanthropic activity, clearly unintended in the original District.
Whether you belong to Kaiser, Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Stanford Medical, or other medical plans, I will represent you.
I am the minority member on the Board. Make your vote serve as a mandate for my agenda.
Vote for Jack Hickey, and no other candidate.
